FILM LOCATIONS

A range of locations for feature films and commercials

Salem, NY, and its surrounding villages provide some of the most unspoiled period architectural and landscape settings in the United States.

Most of the commercial buildings on Main Street, as well as many of the houses within a mile of Main Street, were built in the mid-1700s. Most retain their original architectural character. We can assist location scouts with finding interior and exterior locations to cover scenes involving businesses and homes.

Among the unique exterior locations available in Salem are:

Riverscapes. The famed Battenkill River, along with White Creek, Black Creek and smaller waterways are available with wooded, town or farmland angles. Salem has three covered bridges.

Fields/farmscapes. Working farms, with many traditional buildings, dot the landscape. These include dairy farms, maple sugar houses, cornfields, potatoes and other crops.

Mountains. The Green Mountains of Vermont rise from the east of the village. A brief drive north gives fabulous vistas of the Adirondack Mountains with water, farmland or town scenes in the foreground.

Lakes. Numerous small lakes surround the village. Some feature period summer camps, while others offer a totally “wild” perspective.

Wetlands. The area is surrounded by wetlands, home to many species of duck and goose. Eagles nest here, and there is a large population of hawks and other birds of prey.

Wildlife. Whitetail deer, foxes, bobcats, coyotes, turkey, pheasant, quail and all manner of small game thrive here. For productions that require game and fish in their natural habitats, we have experienced guides who can help plan your shoot.

Foliage. Salem is a must-see destination for leaf peepers from all over the country. The large number of sugar maples in the area guarantees a great annual display.

Agricultural/artisanal food production. In the Salem area you can find organic livestock (lamb, beef, poultry), small-scale traditional cheese production, fruit and vegetable farming and bakeries which produce bread the old-fashioned way.

Production services. Emmy Award winning producer and director Stephen Trombley has recently opened Stephen Trombley Productions, a company that can assist filmmakers in location finding, and also in contracting local production services.
