Salem’s Holiday Parade Delights Children and Adults

SALEM, NY the Clause's— Salem ’s annual Holiday Parade drew hundreds to watch Mr. and Mrs. Claus and a procession of floats, animals and fire trucks make their way down Main Street . The parade was sponsored by the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce, and many individuals and businesses contributed their time and effort to making the day a success.

Jay and Lynn Kerr of the Fort Salem Theater judged the best floats from the grandstand in front of Proudfit Hall. First prize went to the Winslow Family Hard Knock Hill Kennel; second prize to the Sullivan Family Willy Wonka Float; and third prize to the First United Presbyterian Church of Salem.

Sled winnersYoung Payten Williams won a sled full of toys donated by the Sullivan family.

Fred and Noreen Russo sold hot chocolate and cider donuts donated by Gardenworks and Reggie’s Veggies to benefit the Mike Keyes Salem/Shushan Fuel Fund, which helps families with heating bills.

The Chamber wishes to thank all those who participated in this community event. This volunteer effort would have been impossible without the contributions of so many local businesses, individuals, families, volunteer firefighters and organizations.
